This year’s Easter journey through Norway traditionally began with an early Sunday service in the town of Bø. This event was truly special, as we had the honor of praying in an extraordinary place — the ancient Church of Saint Olav, which is over 850 years old.
This church is a living witness to history, built back in the days of Prince Yaroslav the Wise and his children. Its snow-white stone walls have stood for many centuries, and it was here, in the heart of Scandinavia, that Ukrainians and local Christians praised Christ with one heart on this day.
An Atmosphere That Returns to the Roots
The service in Bø was filled with incredible coziness and authenticity. Since the church has no modern heating, and the lighting was solely by candlelight, a rare sense of connection with the past emerged. The flickering candles, the chill of the ancient stone, and the sincere shared prayer created an atmosphere that is difficult to put into words — it was a true celebration of the spirit.
Unity and Gratitude
Many people gathered for the service. After the liturgy concluded, we had the opportunity to talk and break the fast together, sharing the joy of the holiday within the warm circle of the community.
We express our sincere gratitude to the local Lutheran Church of Bø for their support and great kindness. It is thanks to their help that the Ukrainian community was able to spend Easter in this majestic historic building.
