On May 25, the Trinity Pilgrimage will take place in the Midt-Telemark municipality from Nes kyrkje in Gvarv to Bø gamle kyrkje — nearly 20 kilometers along ancient roads through the historic landmarks of Telemark.
The pilgrimage begins with services featuring Gregorian chant, one of the oldest traditions of Western church music, dating back to early Christianity.
Service start times at Nes kyrkje:
08:30 — early service
09:30 — late service
After the prayer, pilgrims will set off on foot along the old road to Bø gamle kyrkje. The route will be clearly marked with special signs, ensuring no one gets lost. Along the way, there will be designated areas for rest, food, meetings, and various cultural stops.
Pilgrimage is a unique Christian tradition that combines prayer, the journey, fellowship, and inner silence. People set out not just for the sake of travel itself, but to step away from daily hustle and bustle, if only for a short while, and to remember the spiritual dimension of life.
It is particularly joyful that one of the pilgrimage stops will be the site of the old ruined church near Hørte Dampfarveri, where ancient Orthodox chants will be performed. All pilgrimage participants will have the opportunity to experience the tradition of ancient Orthodox singing and hear how the prayer of the Eastern Church sounds in a living choral tradition.
For us, this is not only participation in an important local event but also an opportunity to share the beauty of the Orthodox spiritual tradition and build good, living relationships between people of different Christian traditions in Norway.
