Mission Ambassador

The Mission of Saint Olav brings together people in different cities and regions across Norway. To help our community grow not only in places where a priest is regularly present, we would like to build a network of local Mission ambassadors.

A Mission Ambassador is a person who helps coordinate the life of our community in their city or region and serves as a link between local members and the Mission.

You do not need a theological education or extensive experience in organisational work. What matters most is a willingness to help people, a sense of responsibility, openness, and readiness to dedicate some of your time to this work.

What does an ambassador do?

An ambassador may:

• stay in contact with Mission members in their city or region;
• help coordinate the Mission’s local activities;
• assist with organising Orthodox worship services;
• find suitable venues and help with the practical preparation of services;
• inform members about worship services, meetings and other events;
• help organise local meetings, cultural, social, charitable and family activities;
• help organise the Mission’s children’s, youth and family camps;
• share information about upcoming camps and help coordinate participants and volunteers;
• help organise transport, logistics and the practical preparation of events;
• coordinate local volunteers;
• communicate to the Mission’s leadership the needs of people in their region;
• help build a lively, welcoming and supportive local community.

The amount of work may vary. In one city it may involve only a few hours per month, while in another region more regular involvement may be needed.

Support for ambassadors

We do not want service within the Mission to become a financial burden for anyone.

Therefore, the Mission may:

• reimburse agreed direct expenses related to the ambassador’s activities;
• cover transport costs and other necessary organisational expenses;
• by agreement, provide a small honorarium for work carried out.

The terms of cooperation, level of responsibility and any possible honorarium are agreed individually, depending on the level of activity and the needs of the particular region.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people who:

• share the values of the Mission of Saint Olav;
• take responsibility for agreements and commitments;
• enjoy working with people;
• can serve as a local point of contact for Mission members;
• are willing to contribute where they live.

An ambassador does not replace the priest and does not perform liturgical or priestly functions. The ambassador’s role is to help create the conditions for the community to meet, pray, communicate, organise activities and support one another.
